Black Dog Design is an independent information portal about graphic design and branding for readers in the UK. This page explains how cookies work on this site, what we store and why, and how you can control them. Black Dog Design respects your right to browse without being tracked more than strictly necessary.
Understanding what a cookie does here
A cookie is a small text file saved by your browser when you visit a site. It helps the site remember things between visits—whether you accepted a notice, which page you came from, or that you have been here before. Cookies do not run programmes or carry viruses. They sit in your browser's storage and expire after a set time, or when you clear them manually.
On this portal, cookies fall into two groups: the ones we set ourselves to make the site work smoothly, and the ones placed by third-party services we embed. Neither type collects personal details such as your name or email unless you choose to send those to us separately.
Tracking your visit to measure reach
We use analytics software to understand how many people visit the portal, which articles are read most often, and where traffic comes from. The data is aggregated—it shows patterns, not individuals. You cannot be identified from it. If you would rather not be counted, most browsers let you block third-party cookies or turn on Do Not Track, and the analytics service will honour that setting.
Scripts placed by services we do not control
Some pages embed content hosted elsewhere: a video player, a map, or a social-media widget. When you load one of those elements, the service providing it may set its own cookie. We do not choose what those cookies store or how long they persist. Each service has its own privacy notice, usually linked in the footer of the embedded frame. Turn off third-party cookies in your browser to stop them reaching your device.
Changing your settings without breaking the site
Every modern browser gives you control. Open its settings or preferences menu, find the privacy or cookies section, and choose what to allow. Block all cookies, and some features—remembering your consent banner choice, for example—will stop working, but you will still be able to read every page.
Clearing cookies removes everything stored so far. Sites will treat your next visit as the first. Set your browser to clear cookies automatically when you close it if you share a device or prefer not to leave traces.
When this notice changes
If we add a new service that sets cookies, or change how we use them, this page will be updated to reflect it. The date at the foot of the document shows when it was last revised. Check back occasionally if you want to stay informed. We will not email you about changes to the cookie policy.
