Privacy policy

Last updated:

This privacy notice explains how Black Dog Design collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit our site. We are the data controller for the information you provide to us, and we take your privacy seriously.

The short version

We collect very little. When you visit our site, your browser sends us technical information such as your IP address and the pages you viewed. If you contact us by email, we hold your message and your address so we can reply. We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not use it for purposes beyond running this site and responding to your enquiries.

Data you hand over vs data we observe

Information you actively provide includes anything you write in an email to us — your name, email address and the content of your message. Information we observe automatically includes your IP address, browser type, referring page and the date and time of each visit. This is collected through server logs, which every website generates. We use this data to understand how the site is used and to identify technical problems.

We do not set cookies for tracking or advertising. Any cookies present are strictly functional — for example, to remember a preference you set during your visit.

Processors and transfers

We use a hosting provider to keep the site online. That provider processes your IP address and request data as part of delivering the pages you ask for. We may also use an email service to manage correspondence. These processors are bound by contract to handle your data only as we instruct, and they do not use it for their own purposes.

Your data stays within the UK and the European Economic Area. We do not transfer personal information to countries outside those regions.

Exercising your rights

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to ask what information we hold about you, to request corrections, to ask us to delete it and to object to certain uses. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk if you believe we have mishandled your data.

To exercise any of these rights, write to us at the address given on the contact page. We will respond within one month.

Retention

Server logs are kept for 90 days, then automatically deleted. Correspondence is held for as long as necessary to deal with your enquiry and for one year after the last message in the thread, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.

Minors

This site is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this notice

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in how we operate or in legal requirements. The updated version will be posted on this page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the new terms.

This is an information site for general guidance only. We do not sell any goods or services.
